Terms of Service

Effective October 25, 2026

Not affiliated with or endorsed by the NYPD or DCAS. Road to Sergeant is an independent study resource. Road to Sergeant is for educational purposes only and is updated through October 2026. For any new procedures or updates, always refer to the current Patrol Guide. Using this site is not a guarantee of any exam result.

1. Agreement

These terms govern your use of Road to Sergeant at earnthechevrons.com (the "Service"), operated by David, an independent individual ("we", "us"). It is not a company or a government service. By creating a profile, paying, or using the Service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. What the Service is

Road to Sergeant is a study aid: practice tests, a Practice a Final Test, a procedure library, notes, highlights, flashcards and progress tracking, built to help you prepare for promotion exams. It is an independent product. It is not published, approved or endorsed by the New York City Police Department ("NYPD") or the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services ("DCAS"). The names NYPD, DCAS and "Patrol Guide" are used only to identify the materials the study aid is about.

The practice questions are written for this Service. They are not actual exam questions and may differ from the real exam in content, wording and difficulty. Scores, analyses and "chance to pass" projections are estimates for study purposes only and are not predictions or guarantees. Procedures change; the current official Patrol Guide and Administrative Guide always control. The Service is designed to work best on a desktop or laptop computer.

4. Membership and payment

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to: copy, scrape, harvest or republish the questions, answers, explanations or other content in bulk or by automated means; use bots, scripts or tools to take tests or to get around the speed, volume, device or security limits; share, sell or resell your profile or access; create fake profiles; interfere with or overload the Service; or use the Service for anything unlawful. We may suspend or end a profile that breaks these rules, with or without notice, and the paid period is not refunded for a violation.

6. Ownership and your content

The Service, its software, design, practice questions, explanations, analyses and original study materials belong to us and are protected by copyright. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use them for your own non-commercial exam preparation during your membership.

The NYPD Patrol Guide, the Administrative Guide and related names and marks belong to their respective owners. They are referred to and excerpted here for educational study. We claim no ownership of them.

The notes, highlights and flashcards you create are yours. You give us permission to store and display them to you so the Service works.

Copyright or other complaints. If you believe something on the Service infringes your rights, use Contact us with what the material is, where it appears, and your contact information, and we will review it promptly.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep the Service available until the end of exam day but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, add or remove features and content, and we may update these terms. If we make a material change we will post the new date above; continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the changes.

8. Disclaimers and limits of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that you will pass any exam, be promoted, or that the content reflects the latest official procedures. Nothing here is legal, career or official departmental advice.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost opportunities, promotions or earnings, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. Some places do not allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in New York State have jurisdiction over disputes, unless the law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
