Privacy Policy
Effective October 25, 2026
1. Who we are
Road to Sergeant (earnthechevrons.com) is an independent study resource run by David, an independent individual. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NYPD or DCAS. Questions about this policy: Contact us.
2. What we collect
- Profile information: the username you choose and your password. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so it cannot be read back. We do not ask for your name, tax registry number or Social Security number.
- Study data: your test answers and scores, how sure you said you were of an answer, tests in progress, full-exam records, highlights, notes, flashcards, study status and similar progress.
- Study preferences: what you enter when you set up your plan, such as your exam date, study days, session length and level.
- Security and device information: sign-in events, a general device and browser label (for example "iPhone - Safari"), a scrambled form of your IP address, session records and usage counts, used to enforce the one-device and device-limit rules and to detect abuse such as bots or copying.
- Payment information: whether you have paid, the amount, the date of payment and the date your access ends, and Stripe's customer and payment reference numbers. On Stripe's checkout page you give Stripe your card details, your email address (for the receipt) and the billing location it needs for sales tax. Stripe keeps those under its own privacy policy; we never see or store your card number, and the site's database does not store your email address.
- Refund requests: the reason you give (if any), the email or phone number you choose to leave for a reply, and the payment it is about. These are saved and emailed to the site owner.
- Issue reports: what you write when you use Report an issue on a question or explanation.
- Messages you send us by email, and any details in them.
Please never enter a Social Security number, tax registry number, bank number or similar into the Service.
3. How we use it
- To create and secure your profile, sign you in, and keep your progress.
- To provide the practice tests, analyses and projections.
- To process your payment and grant access until the end of exam day.
- To enforce our Terms, prevent fraud, abuse and scraping, and keep the Service running.
- To answer your emails and fix problems.
4. Who handles your data
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with the NYPD, DCAS or your employer. We use these service providers, who process data for us:
- Cloudflare hosts the website, runs the database that stores your profile and progress, sends the owner's notification emails (refund requests), and provides the human-verification check (Turnstile) on sign-up and sign-in.
- Stripe processes payments under its own privacy policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the page fonts, so your browser contacts Google when pages load.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the Service and its users.
5. Cookies and local storage
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. Your browser's local storage keeps preferences (such as light or dark theme, sound and reader settings), a note that you are signed in, and a copy of your progress on your device. Signing out clears the progress copy. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics trackers.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your profile and study data while your profile exists, and no longer than the life of the Service. The Service shuts down after the 2027 sergeant exam; when it does, profiles, study data and logs are deleted. Security and usage logs are kept only as long as needed to run and protect the Service. Payment records are kept as needed for accounting and legal purposes. You can ask us to delete your profile at any time (see below); we may retain limited records the law requires.
7. Your choices
You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your information by using Contact us from the contact you used. We will need to verify it is you. Deleting your profile ends your access; the paid period is not refunded unless the law requires. If you live somewhere with additional privacy rights (for example under New York or other state law), you may exercise them the same way.
8. Security
We protect data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), scrambled storage of passwords, rate limits and bot checks. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Tell us right away if you suspect your profile was misused.
9. Children
The Service is for adults (18 and over). We do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. Material changes will be noted on the Service.
